KT200II ECU File Naming and Backup Version Control Guide
KT200II OFFICIAL TECHNICAL GUIDE
KT200II ECU File Naming and Backup Version Control Guide
A consistent file management system helps technicians protect original ECU data, identify modified files and maintain a clear record throughout every KT200II programming job.
Why KT200II File Management Matters
ECU programming jobs often involve more than one file. A workshop may create an original read, a backup copy, a modified calibration file, a replacement ECU file and a final programming report. If these files are saved with unclear names, the wrong file may be selected during a later operation.
A structured naming and backup method makes the job easier to review and helps technicians separate original data from modified data before using the KT200II ECU Programmer.
Recommended File Information
| Information | Example Use | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle reference | VIN or workshop job number | Links the file to the correct vehicle. |
| ECU identification | ECU brand, part number or hardware number | Reduces the risk of mixing similar modules. |
| Operation type | Original read, modified file or final write | Shows the purpose of each file. |
| Version number | V1, V2 or approved revision | Makes later revisions easy to identify. |
| Date and technician | Service date and initials | Improves workshop traceability. |
Step 1: Create One Folder for Each Job
Start with one main folder for each vehicle or work order. Use a neutral job reference rather than storing files in a general desktop folder or a shared downloads directory.
A practical folder structure may include:
- 01_Original_Read
- 02_Identification
- 03_Modified_Files
- 04_Replacement_ECU
- 05_Final_Report
This structure keeps original data separate from files prepared for writing.
Step 2: Name the Original Read Clearly
The first file read from the ECU should always be identified as the original source file. Include the vehicle reference, ECU number and operation mode when possible.
Example naming format:
Do not rename the only original file to a vague name such as “new.bin” or “test1.bin”. Keep the original copy unchanged.
Separate Original, Modified and Final Files
Use different folders and clear labels for every file stage. A modified file should never replace the original backup. If several revisions are created, use sequential version numbers and record what changed in the job notes.
- ORIGINAL: Data read from the control unit before modification.
- MOD_V1: First approved modified file.
- MOD_V2: Later revision after technical review.
- FINAL_WRITE: File selected for the final programming operation.
- RECOVERY: Data reserved for an authorized recovery procedure.
Step 3: Match the File to the ECU Record
Before selecting a file in KT200II software, compare its name and identification with the physical ECU and the official KT200II support record.
- Confirm the vehicle and ECU part number.
- Check the hardware and software family.
- Confirm the supported operation mode.
- Verify the file belongs to the current job folder.
- Review the file version and technician notes.
If any detail is inconsistent, stop before writing and request technical confirmation.
Common File Management Mistakes
- Saving original and modified files in the same folder without labels.
- Using the same filename for multiple vehicles.
- Overwriting the only original backup.
- Selecting a file from a previous job because the ECU housing looks similar.
- Disconnecting the ECU before the final report and file are saved.
- Keeping files only on one computer without a controlled backup.
Step 4: Save the Final Programming Report
After the read or write operation, save the communication report, ECU identification and final file in the job folder. Include the selected protocol, operation mode and technician initials.
Use the approved package from the official KT200II software download page. Keep the software version and report together so the workshop can reproduce the job history when required.
